Arteria profunda femoris sinistra · Levá hluboká stehenní tepna
Heart & arteries
Looks like
A large branch leaving the femoral artery a few centimetres below the groin, running deep, close to the thigh bone.
What it does
The main supply of the thigh muscles and the femur, through its circumflex and perforating branches.
Keeping it well
When the main femoral artery is blocked, it often keeps the leg alive; surgeons protect it in bypass surgery.
