A branch of the deep femoral artery that runs outward under the sartorius and rectus femoris, splitting into up, across and down branches.
What it does
Supplies the front and outer thigh muscles and part of the hip.
Keeping it well
Its descending branch carries the anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap, a workhorse flap in reconstructive surgery.
