Looks like

A short stem from the subclavian artery, just inside the scalene muscle, splitting into three or four branches.

What it does

Gives the inferior thyroid, suprascapular and transverse cervical arteries.

Keeping it well

Rarely diseased itself; its branches feed the thyroid and a shoulder bypass network.
