Looks like
A thin, dark layer full of blood vessels between the retina and the sclera at the back of the eye.
What it does
Feeds the outer retina with oxygen and absorbs stray light.
Keeping it well
Wet macular degeneration grows leaky vessels from here; melanoma can arise in it. Sudden distorted central vision needs an eye doctor.
