Tarsal plate of left upper eyelid
Tarsus superior sinister · Tarzální ploténka levého horního víčka
Fascia & connective tissue
Looks like
A firm, curved plate of dense tissue, about 1 cm tall, inside the upper eyelid, like a stiffener in a shirt collar.
What it does
Gives the upper lid its shape, holds oil glands that keep tears from drying, and anchors the muscle that lifts the lid.
Keeping it well
A blocked oil gland makes a painless lump (chalazion); warm compresses help. A red, painful, swollen lid with fever needs a doctor.
