Oblique part of cricothyroid

Pars obliqua musculi cricothyroidei · Šikmá část prstencovo-štítného svalu

Muscles

Looks like

The back, slanting part of the cricothyroid muscle, running from the cricoid ring up and back to the lower horn of the thyroid cartilage.

What it does

Slides and tilts the thyroid cartilage forward, lengthening and tightening the vocal cords for higher notes.

Keeping it well

Powered by the external laryngeal nerve, at risk in thyroid surgery. Losing high notes or quick voice fatigue afterwards needs an ENT check.
