A saddle-shaped wrist bone in the far row at the base of the thumb.
What it does
Forms the saddle joint with the thumb metacarpal that lets the thumb swing across the palm.
Keeping it well
The joint here is a very common site of osteoarthritis, especially in women after 50: pain on pinching or opening jars.
