Upper secondary canine tooth
Dens caninus superior · Horní stálý špičák
Skeleton
Looks like
The pointed eye-tooth third from the midline in the upper jaw, with the longest root of any tooth.
What it does
Tears food and guides the jaw sideways, protecting the back teeth.
Keeping it well
Sometimes stays buried in the palate (impacted); an X-ray around age 10–12 catches it while it can still be guided in.
