Looks like
A bump on the front of the shin bone a few centimetres below the kneecap.
What it does
Anchors the patellar tendon, through which the quadriceps straightens the knee.
Keeping it well
In growing, sporty teenagers it swells and hurts (Osgood–Schlatter disease), settling when growth ends. Kneeling pain here is common and harmless.
