Uterine artery
Arteria uterina · Děložní tepna
Heart & arteries · female only
Looks like
A coiled artery the width of a match, crossing the pelvis to the side of the cervix and climbing the womb.
What it does
Feeds the womb, and grows enormously to feed a pregnancy.
Keeping it well
Nothing routine; it is deliberately blocked to shrink fibroids or to stop bleeding after birth.
