Iliolumbar ligament
Ligamentum iliolumbale · Kyčelně-bederní vaz
Joints & cartilage
Looks like
A strong band from the side process of the fifth lumbar vertebra to the back of the iliac crest.
What it does
Ties the lowest lumbar vertebra to the pelvis and stops it slipping forward or tipping sideways.
Keeping it well
A possible source of low back pain after strain. A fracture of the L5 side process in pelvic trauma often means this ligament is pulling.
