Sacrotuberous ligament
Ligamentum sacrotuberale · Křížohrbolový vaz
Joints & cartilage
Looks like
A long strong band from the back of the sacrum and ilium to the sitting bone (ischial tuberosity).
What it does
Stops the sacrum tipping forward under body weight and gives attachment to the gluteus maximus and hamstring.
Keeping it well
The pudendal nerve can be compressed near it, causing burning pain in the perineum on sitting.
