Superior sagittal sinus
Sinus sagittalis superior · Horní šípový splav
Veins
Looks like
A long channel along the top midline of the skull, from the forehead to the back of the head, in the upper edge of the brain's dividing fold.
What it does
Drains the upper brain surface and reabsorbs brain fluid through small tufts pushing into it.
Keeping it well
The most common site of venous sinus thrombosis. Risks include pregnancy, the contraceptive pill and dehydration; a worsening headache with fits is urgent.
