The flat, wide end of the ridge of the shoulder blade, forming the highest point of the shoulder above the joint.
What it does
Roofs the shoulder joint and anchors the deltoid and trapezius; it meets the collarbone at the AC joint.
Keeping it well
The rotator cuff tendons run under it and can be pinched when the arm is raised. A fall onto the shoulder can separate the AC joint — a painful step at the shoulder top.
