Looks like

A branch of the coeliac trunk running right along the upper border of the pancreas.

What it does

Gives the gastroduodenal artery and continues as the hepatic artery proper to the liver.

Keeping it well

Its lymph nodes are removed in stomach and pancreas cancer surgery; injury threatens liver supply.
