Left main bronchus

Bronchus principalis sinister · Levá hlavní průduška

Respiratory system

Looks like

Each of the two tubes the windpipe splits into at about the level of T4–T5; the right is shorter, wider and more vertical than the left.

What it does

Carries all the air to one lung and enters it at the root (hilum) with the lung vessels.

Keeping it well

Inhaled objects usually go to the right side. Coughing blood or a new wheeze on one side needs a chest scan and possibly bronchoscopy.
