The first, horizontal stretch of the middle cerebral artery (M1), running sideways under the brain along the edge of the sphenoid bone.
What it does
Carries all middle cerebral blood outward and gives off the deep lenticulostriate branches.
Keeping it well
A clot here blocks a large area — a major stroke that can be treated by pulling the clot out (thrombectomy) if done within hours.
