Digestive system
Looks like
The first 25 cm or so of small intestine, a C-shaped loop curving round the head of the pancreas.
What it does
Receives stomach contents, bile and pancreatic juice and neutralises the acid.
Keeping it well
The commonest site of peptic ulcers; coeliac disease is diagnosed from biopsies here. Black stools or vomiting blood are an emergency.
