Neutrophils
Granulocyti neutrophili · Neutrofily
Lymphatic & immune
Looks like
The commonest white cells, with a nucleus of three to five lobes and fine granules; they live only hours to days in the blood.
What it does
The first cells to reach an infection, swallowing and killing bacteria; pus is mostly dead neutrophils.
Keeping it well
Some drugs and chemotherapy lower them; fever with a low neutrophil count is an emergency.
