A branch of the mandibular nerve running just under the lining of the mouth beside the lower wisdom tooth into the tongue.
What it does
Brings feeling from the front two thirds of the tongue and floor of the mouth; carries taste from the chorda tympani.
Keeping it well
At risk in wisdom-tooth surgery; injury gives a numb tongue that may lose taste. Report lasting numbness to the surgeon.
