Muscle layer of large intestine
Tunica muscularis intestini crassi · Svalová vrstva tlustého střeva
Muscles
Looks like
The muscle coat of the large bowel: an inner circular layer and outer lengthwise fibres gathered into three bands (taeniae).
What it does
Mixes and slowly pushes stool along and pouches the bowel into bulges (haustra).
Keeping it well
Fibre and fluids help it work; a lasting change in bowel habit or blood in stool over 50 needs a doctor.
