Superior oblique
Musculus obliquus superior bulbi · Horní šikmý sval oka
Muscles
Looks like
A long thin muscle along the upper inner orbit whose tendon loops through a small pulley before attaching to the top of the eyeball.
What it does
Turns the eye down and in, and rolls it inward; needed to look down toward the nose, as when reading.
Keeping it well
Powered by the trochlear nerve, which is easily hurt by head injury, giving vertical double vision and a head tilt. See a doctor.
