The front part of the hip bone; the two sides meet at the pubic symphysis, a joint of cartilage low in the midline.
What it does
Closes the front of the pelvic ring and anchors belly and groin muscles.
Keeping it well
The joint loosens in pregnancy and can be painful; fractures of the pubic rami after a fall are common in older people with osteoporosis.
