Suspensory ligament of left lens
Zonula ciliaris sinistra · Závěsný aparát levé čočky
Joints & cartilage
Looks like
Hundreds of fine transparent fibres (the zonule) running like spokes from the ring-shaped ciliary body to the edge of the lens.
What it does
Holds the lens in place; when the ciliary muscle relaxes the fibres tighten and flatten the lens for far vision.
Keeping it well
Weak in Marfan syndrome or after eye injury, letting the lens shift (lens dislocation). Sudden blurred or double vision in one eye needs an eye doctor.
