Right fusiform gyrus

Looks like

A long spindle-shaped ridge on the underside of the temporal and occipital lobes.

What it does

Recognises faces, written words and objects; the right side is key for faces, the left for reading.

Keeping it well

Damage can cause face blindness (prosopagnosia) or loss of reading. It shows up in epilepsy work-ups and stroke imaging.
