Cerebellar peduncles

Pedunculi cerebellares · Mozečkové stopky

Nervous system

Looks like

Three thick bundles of nerve fibres on each side — superior, middle and inferior — joining the cerebellum to the midbrain, pons and medulla.

What it does

Carry everything in and out: body position from the spinal cord and inner ear in, cortex plans in through the pons, and corrections out to the thalamus and motor cortex.

Keeping it well

A stroke, multiple sclerosis plaque or tumour here gives clumsiness, tremor on reaching and unsteady walking on the same side as the damage.
