A thick arched bridge of white matter joining the two hemispheres, about 10 cm long.
What it does
Carries signals between the left and right halves of the brain.
Keeping it well
Damaged in multiple sclerosis and severe head injury; it can be absent from birth, which scans before or after birth show.
