A long bundle of nerve fibres running from the motor cortex through the brainstem into the spinal cord, crossing sides low in the brainstem.

What it does

Carries voluntary movement commands to the muscles.

Keeping it well

Damaged by stroke, spinal injury, multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease; stiff, weak legs with brisk reflexes point to it.
