Optic disc
Discus nervi optici · Terč zrakového nervu
Sense organs
Looks like
A pale round spot about 1.5 mm across at the back of the eye, where the optic nerve leaves.
What it does
The exit of all nerve fibres and the entry of the retinal blood vessels; it has no light cells, making the blind spot.
Keeping it well
Cupping here is how glaucoma is found, so regular eye tests matter; a swollen disc means raised brain pressure.
