The right or left branch of the hepatic artery proper, entering the liver at its hilum with the bile duct and portal vein.
What it does
Carries oxygen-rich blood to its half of the liver and to the bile ducts.
Keeping it well
Variations are common (e.g. a right hepatic from the superior mesenteric artery); key in gallbladder surgery and liver transplant.
