A small bump on the back underside of the thalamus, beside the lateral geniculate body.
What it does
The hearing relay: passes sound signals from the inferior colliculus to the hearing cortex.
Keeping it well
Rarely damaged alone; a stroke here can cause problems processing sounds despite normal ears.
