Septum pellucidum

Septum pellucidum · Průhledná přepážka

Nervous system

Looks like

A thin, see-through double sheet of tissue running down the middle between the two lateral ventricles.

What it does

Separates the ventricles and anchors the fornix beneath it; it has no known job of its own.

Keeping it well

A small gap between its two sheets (cavum septi pellucidi) is normal in babies and many adults. Its absence can go with an underdeveloped optic nerve and pituitary (septo-optic dysplasia).
