The lower pair of small bumps on the back of the midbrain, above where the trochlear nerve exits.
What it does
A major hearing relay: locates sounds and passes signals to the medial geniculate body.
Keeping it well
Rarely damaged alone; tumours or strokes in the midbrain can affect hearing on both sides.
