Right lateral basal bronchopulmonary segment
Segmentum basale laterale pulmonis dextri (S IX) · Pravý laterální bazální bronchopulmonální segment
Respiratory system
Looks like
A segment of the lower lobe (S9) at the outer side of the lung base, resting on the diaphragm.
What it does
Gas exchange in the lower outer lung; the bases get the most air and blood when upright.
Keeping it well
Lung bases are where inhaled material settles in upright people and where fluid (effusion) and scarring in lung fibrosis show first.
