Papillary muscle of left ventricle
Musculus papillaris ventriculi sinistri · Papilární sval levé komory
Muscles
Looks like
Finger-like muscles rising from the wall of the right ventricle, tied by thin tendon cords to the tricuspid valve flaps.
What it does
Tighten as the heart pumps, stopping the valve flaps from blowing back into the atrium.
Keeping it well
Damage lets the valve leak; a new heart murmur with breathlessness or swollen legs needs assessment.
