Cavity of left atrium
Cavitas atrii sinistri · Dutina levé síně
Heart & arteries
Looks like
The hollow inside an upper heart chamber, where blood collects between beats.
What it does
Holds returning blood and tops up the ventricle with a small push at the end of each beat.
Keeping it well
An enlarged atrium favours atrial fibrillation, in which clots can form here and cause stroke. An irregular pulse needs a check.
