Neurohypophysis
Neurohypophysis · Neurohypofýza
Endocrine glands
Looks like
The back lobe of the pituitary gland and its stalk, made of nerve fibres coming down from the hypothalamus.
What it does
Stores and releases two hormones: vasopressin (holds on to water) and oxytocin (labour, milk let-down).
Keeping it well
Damage causes diabetes insipidus — huge amounts of dilute urine and constant thirst; this needs a doctor.
