Urinary system
Looks like
A bean-shaped organ about 11 cm long high on the back wall of the belly, under the lower ribs, one each side.
What it does
Filters blood to make urine, balances salt, water and acid, and makes hormones controlling blood pressure and red cells.
Keeping it well
Kidney disease is usually silent: blood tests and urine protein detect it. Fever with flank pain or blood in the urine needs a doctor.
