Hypodermis
Tela subcutanea · Podkoží
Subcutaneous fat
Looks like
The deepest layer of the skin: lobules of fat held by fibrous strands, between the dermis and the muscles.
What it does
Insulates, cushions and stores energy, and anchors the skin loosely so it can slide.
Keeping it well
Its thickness varies with body fat. A red, hot, spreading patch with fever is cellulitis and needs antibiotics quickly.
