Sebaceous glands
Glandulae sebaceae · Mazové žlázy
Skin & appendages
Looks like
Small grape-like glands attached to the hair follicles, most numerous on the face, scalp, chest and back.
What it does
Release sebum, an oily film that keeps skin and hair supple and waterproof.
Keeping it well
Hormones at puberty enlarge them and blocked pores become acne. Deep, painful, scarring spots warrant treatment early to prevent scars.
